Info-Tech Lit Curriculum Notes - February 2008
1.
This curriculum has been designed specifically for Budlong
School’s set up;
*
K – 4th graders use a Mac lab
*
5th – 8th graders use a Windows lab.
Consequently
some concepts are re-visited in the upper grades so students understand that the
concepts are the same although the operating system is different.
While we encourage others to use this curriculum, we ask that if your school
uses 90% or more without making any changes that you:
a. Credit Budlong
School and Barbara Beyers if you post this curriculum on a website or distribute printed
copies.
b. Email Barbara Beyers
@bebeyers@cps.edu to
let her know you are using this
curriculum.
Please also email
Barbara to share any suggestions/lessons/units/webquests which could be used to
teach these concepts and she will credit your input.
2. This curriculum is a work in progress and will continue to be refined after reviewing it with classroom teachers.
3. Alignment with NETS and ILS will be included by the end of Oct. 2007.
4. Lessons/units will be developed along with assessments. Ideally lessons will be developed with the grade-level teachers to address grade-level content while teaching the Info-Tech Lit skills. These units would be taught collaboratively.
For example, to introduce/reinforce the concept of data and interpreting graphs students will develop a survey for SS or LA. For homework they will collect the data and during math class they will use graphing paper to hand draw a graph of the data. Finally, they will bring the data and their hand-drawn graphs to the Info-Tech lab to learn how to use a spreadsheet to graph the data.
While students will be scheduled once or twice a week for Info-Tech Lit in the lab, some lessons/projects will require additional time in the lab.
