Mission
Statement
The focus of the Physical Education department is to provide students with a foundation of knowledge about the social, cognitive, and kinetic aspects of health and physical fitness. We are mindful of the diverse population of our students and therefore we utilize a great variety of sports, games, and challenges that are implemented in the curriculum. With the hope of curbing the rate of childhood obesity, we strive to empower and inspire students to continue a healthy and active lifestyle in the pursuit of life long fitness that reaches beyond the classroom walls
Grading
Grading is done in to weighted parts. Each part is weight at 50% of the total grade for a quarter. One part is participation and attendance. The other half of the grade is written work. The participation grade starts at 100%, for every infraction whether that is choosing not to participate, unexcused absence, or inappropriate dress the student will receive -5% off of the total participation and attendance grade. Written work is generally writing down the rules and positions of whatever sport we are doing for the month. It may also be a written assignment from a health or fitness perspective. The written assignments receive their own grade during the course of the quarter but, the total is still weighted at 50%.
