Dear Budlong Families,

Fall is here!  The temperature has dropped and November is around the corner; we are now implementing the cold weather entry plan.   Students should enter the building directly (as early as 7:45am) and homeroom teachers will pick up from these locations: kindergarten-2nd grades are in the auditorium, 3rd -5th grades are in the cafeteria, and 6th -8th grades are in the multi-purpose room.  Students can enter the building as early as 7:45 am each morning.  Even with the change in temperature, students need to arrive on time and ready to learn.  We are shooting for 97% attendance school-wide this year.  To help us achieve that goal, please limit the number of days absent to as few as possible.  We are well on our way to achieving that goal for September and October.  Let’s keep it up, students!

Budlong’s after school program began last week.  Spots are still available’ please see your student’s teacher or contact Mr. Gordillo to sign up.  The program focuses on math and reading support, and we are again offering yoga and photography.  We are also planning for morning open gym.  Students can come to school before school starts and participate in various sports and exercise with our kinesthetic wellness, formerly known as PE, teachers.  More information will be sent home in advance of the start date open gym later in November.

Our new partnership with CHIME now includes kinder through fifth grades.   The Sing, Clap, and Read Program brings music to our kinder through second grade students while the Project Image Program does the same for our third through fifth graders.  Classroom performances are coming up later in the school year, so stay tuned.

Fall Fest was a huge success.  From the petting zoo to the pumpkin patch, it was quite the way to welcome fall.  Thank you to all our parent volunteers, and a special thank you to parent Ms. Joy Ferstein for organizing and leading the efforts in carrying on this wonderful Budlong tradition.

We are preparing for Report Card Pick-Up and need all our parents in order for it to be a successful event.  Teachers will be highlighting new initiatives, such as the Lucy Calkins Writing Program for kinder through fifth grades, and resources for all our students.  Please schedule a time with your child’s homeroom teacher for November 18th, 10am – 4pm.  We look forward to seeing you and sharing the progress your student has made so far this year.

I’m excited to announce that we will be transitioning to a Friends of Budlong (FOB) group from a PTA this year.  Just as our PTA did, FOB will focus their efforts on fundraising to bring additional resources to our school.  I hope you will join us for all our monthly parent group meetings.  Our PAC and BAC will meet the first Wednesday of every month in our auditorium at 8:30am, and now we will add FOB to the line up.  Please join us next Wednesday, 11/4, for all three meetings, and meet the members of each group and to learn more about how they support Budlong students.  Everyone is welcome.

As always, we have an open door here at Budlong, and enjoy working with our families to ensure our students’ success.
