Welcome to Budlong Elementary School
Welcome Back! Fall is in the air, and we are all getting ready for the first day of school. We are hard at work preparing lessons, painting walls, and cleaning every nook and cranny for our students’ return. Don't worry, start and end times for Budlong students remain the same, 8:15a.m. - 3:15p.m. Homeroom teachers will be calling their students this week and next. Each teacher will share important information about the upcoming school year, and will want to know about your child as well. We will post information to teacher sites, too, so be sure to check our website for updates. I am pleased to announce we will offer theatre class in 2015-16. Ms. Teresa will be teaching theatre and is already planning out an exciting and performance-based class. Get ready for some amazing productions! Budlong is also partnering with CHIME, an organization that provides music-based lessons including English Language Arts and social emotional learning skills. Our kindergarten, first, and second grades will be part of the program this year. Construction on our Innovation Lab is nearly finished, and will be ready for our students and staff the first week of school. It is intended to be a space for students to be even more creative and to problem solve more than ever before. We would love to hear your thoughts on the use of this lab. As a reminder, all students should be ready with some specific documents by the first day of school. Physical examination documentation is required for preschool, kindergarten, sixth grade students and any student entering CPS for the first time. Dental examinations are required for preschool, kindergarten, second, and sixth grade students. School supply lists are available in the main office and on our website. School fees are $40.00 for kindergarten through seventh grade students and $70.00 for eighth grade students. And don’t forget to order your 2015-16 yearbooks now for $25.00. We still have a few copies of the 2014-15 yearbooks for $20.00. Parents are strongly encouraged volunteer. You can help in many ways, including in the classroom. Volunteer forms are located on our website, from teachers, and in the main office. Our volunteer coordinator is Ms. Paredes, so please see her for more information. Our annual curriculum night will be held in September. Come meet the teachers, learn about our curricula, new initiatives, and expectations for a successful school year. Details to follow. We’re also pleased to announce that we are establishing a Friends of Budlong Elementary group and all Budlong families are automatically members. We’re looking forward to collaboration and increased fundraising toward the betterment of our school. More details to follow. 2015-16 is going to be a great year and I can’t wait to see all our students and families.
